Description

White lotus is a sacred and visually striking aquatic flower known for its spiritual symbolism and serene beauty. It grows in still freshwater bodies and is ideal for outdoor ponds, cement tanks, large containers, and terrace water gardens. White lotus thrives in warm climates and performs well across most parts of India.

To sow, start by scarifying the seeds slightly with a file or sandpaper to break the hard coat. Soak the seeds in a container of clean water, changing the water daily. Seeds usually sprout within 5 to 7 days. Once sprouts reach about 6 inches, transfer them to a wide container with 6 to 8 inches of clay-rich soil and 3 to 4 inches of water above the soil level.

Place the container in full sunlight. Lotus plants need at least 5 to 6 hours of direct sun daily. Use organic manure or liquid compost every 20 to 25 days. Flowering starts around 90 to 120 days after transplanting. The white lotus produces broad green leaves and elegant white blooms that rise above the water surface.

This plant is ideal for decorative ponds, temple tanks, and balcony water features. It requires minimal care once established and blooms seasonally with proper sunlight and nutrition.
