Sombu, also known as fennel, can be sown directly in well-drained soil with good sunlight exposure. Sow the seeds about half an inch deep and keep a spacing of 10 to 12 inches between plants. Fennel prefers cooler weather and can be grown during early winter or early spring in most parts of India.
The plant takes about 80 to 100 days to reach full maturity. However, young tender leaves can be harvested in 30 to 40 days for culinary use. Water the plant regularly but avoid overwatering. This aromatic herb is commonly used in Indian kitchens and also acts as a pollinator-friendly plant in the garden
