Description

Red okra, also known as red bhindi or red ladies finger, is a unique variety known for its striking red pods, rich antioxidant content, and tender texture. It is similar in taste and use to green okra but offers added visual appeal and health benefits. This variety grows well in warm and humid climates, making it suitable for most regions across India.

Sow the seeds directly into well-drained, fertile soil enriched with compost. Choose a sunny spot with at least 5 to 6 hours of sunlight per day. Soak the seeds in water for 6 to 8 hours before sowing to improve germination. Sow the seeds about one inch deep with 12 to 15 inches spacing between plants. Germination typically takes 5 to 8 days.

Water regularly to keep the soil moist, especially during flowering and fruiting stages. Apply organic compost every 15 to 20 days for healthy growth. The plant begins flowering in 40 to 45 days, and harvesting can begin from 50 to 60 days after sowing. Harvest the pods when they are young, bright red, and tender.

Red okra is ideal for terrace gardens, backyard plots, and pots. It is well-suited for all Indian regions with basic garden care and offers a great combination of yield, nutrition, and visual appeal.
